Pi
Williams
Textile artist & punch needle practitioner — exploring the
boundaries of wool, fibre and the Australian landscape.
“She creates expressive & distinct, almost sculptural pieces — where textural wool meets vivid thread, negative space and the quiet beauty of the Australian coast.”
About the Artist
Where wool
meets wonder
Pi Williams has a background in Fine Arts and has worked across a variety of disciplines including watercolour, printmaking and acrylics. She now prefers to create pieces using yarn & wool — sometimes adding to the uniqueness by dyeing her own fabric and wool — with accompanying fabrics such as tulle, leather & raffia, and is largely self-taught in this medium.
Pi strives to explore the boundaries of these techniques and, by combining textural wool with vivid thread, negative space and mixed media materials, she creates expressive & distinct, almost sculptural pieces.
Her creative process heavily involves gathering inspiration from the surrounding coastal environment. Her larger works reflect her interest in the natural world — intricate leaf patterns, detailed rock pools and individual, delicate petals on flower-like descriptions of the microcosms found in the Australian landscape.
With her abstract pieces, she lets herself be guided mainly by intuition, allowing a unique showcase of movement and harmonious colour to evolve naturally.
Recognition & Media
Top 30 finalist in the Bluethumb Art Prize three years in a row (2020–2022) and the Art to Art Unearth Art Prize (2022). Featured on Better Homes and Gardens, Peppermint and Swell magazine. Her artworks have been collected by art lovers across the globe.
